Because of the custom world generation that SMP has, it means that actual oceans get overridden by different biomes. e.g, if you were in a deep ocean biome, the f3 menu would say birch_forest_hills or plains. This causes no sand to spawn on the bottom, no mobs, no shipwrecks, ruins, you cant find coral reefs, etc. The ocean is basically how it was before 1.13. Nothing in it.

I am unsure if this can be fixed or not, but there is the problem anyway. It is really annoying for people who want to build an actual ocean base.

Right, uhm the oceans have changed alot and it might just be a glitch! Do f3+a and it might fix the problem but please consider this was a big update and it isnt a big problem.
